If you enjoy hiking, kayaking, and cross country skiing, you’ll love life in Westwood. If you are a dirt biker or off-road enthusiast, life in Westwood will put you in the center of many off-road recreational opportunities. Sportsmen centered in Westwood have access to a myriad of hunting and fishing opportunities. Two hours from Reno and 6 miles from Lake Almanor, Westwood is situated where the Sierras meet the Cascade Mountain Range. At nearly 5,200 feet above sea level, the town usually sees a good amount of snow each winter, however the past few winters have been mild (2015). The winter of 2016-17 brought more normal snow patterns back to Westwood. Old pictures at the museum show huge snows here.
Coppervale Ski & Snowboard Park
A snowboard park and steep face are visible from the sunny deck where you can enjoy your lunch. Other runs offer fun for all skill levels, including a beginner’s run with rope tow. A Poma lift serves the rest of the mountain. College courses and season passes are available. Click for links.
Hunting and Fishing
Hunters and fishers love life in Westwood. “Five minutes after work, I’m fishing.” exclaims one Westwood resident. Duck and geese are close by. Chukar hunting is popular out in the desert past Susanville. Pheasants, wild turkey….
