   Both locals and visitors to the Lake Almanor area have welcomed The Elegant Farmer with open arms since their first day just in time for the 4th of July, 2023. With them, they brought a piece of elegance and a way of entertainment that perfectly compliments this lovely community. Whether you are looking for a place to hold a gorgeous garden event of your own, or wish to attend an event of theirs, you’re in luck. Live music and many other special events are organized by The Elegant Farmer, from floral decor classes to cookie making over the holidays. I can’t wait to see what summer brings. She said, “I wanted to create a place where guests would feel like they are coming into my home for a backyard barbecue, listening to music, enjoying fine wines and very good food.” That she has done. THE CUISINE The delicious, fresh food they serve is a big part of the wonderful experience at The Elegant Farmer. It is indeed with co-owner, “Cowboy Joe” Barnes that the true outdoor barbecue comes to life. His outdoor shed is nestled in the beautifully appointed backyard, with large outdoor grills aside the adorable cook’s shed. Cowboy Joe loves to cook, and makes most meals and menus, while Lynn’s cousins, Janet and Jillian make all the pastries and sweets, and Janet’s signature chicken and dumplings. The wonderful crosata fruit pies they make from scratch are very popular. When it comes to their homemade chicken and dumplings, Lynn promises, “It is better than Grandma’s!” Joe’s homemade soups are also amazing, like his Chicken Tortilla Soup (bottom right), made with his fire grilled chicken and finished with sour cream and fresh cilantro. Joe’s delicious barbecue includes Tri-tips, Grilled Chicken and his already famous glazed pork, “Burnt Ends,” And when it comes to those ribs, lets just say, Joe won the rib cook-off held at Plumas Pines two years ago. THE GROUNDS The main building and courtyard holds the shop, Cowboy Joe’s garden shed kitchen and an office next-door. From the shop, you step into the welcoming courtyard which offers opportunities for private dining or mingling, perhaps around the corn hole game. Beautiful landscaping accents the gorgeous patios set up for quaint, outdoor dining or sipping fine wines. The sisters have had a great time putting together a wine list with even the most expensive wines available by the glass, thanks to a state-of-the-art wine system called Coravin that enables them to serve the wine while maintaining the cork. The Coravin delivers a fresh glass from any bottle, anytime. Have one glass today and another in a week, or even years later and the last glass from the bottle will taste just as amazing as your first. From gentle poppy stems and onion flower sprays to pyracantha in berry blue, and faux roses in Ivory, magenta and soft orange, the large selection will plant ideas for a fresh theme in your home. Luxury Body and Bath products like fragrant, moisturizing soaps, clothing, bags and jewelry await you in person and online. Who could resist? I threw the Spiced Mandarin soap into my cart. There are so many wonderful things available to order online from their website. I learned a lot about this company and their flair for carrying things I really like, verified by the fact that bythe time my story was done, my online shopping cart was filling up with florals, wonderful tea towels, jewelry and more.
