History’s Story
Nestled on the edge of the forest with hiking access to Walker Lake, and positioned on the trailhead of the nationally acclaimed Bizz Johnson Trail lies The Walker Mansion Inn, run by wonderful hosts Rob and Linda Hart. The scene is downtown Westwood, the feeling is 1914, when the building was originally constructed as home to the historic town of Westwood’s founding family, the Walkers. They literally carved the town out of dense forest that lies amid lakes and streams a many. They were the Red River Lumber Company and the large crews who flocked to the pristine area for their jobs, helped them construct a complete town with a lumber mill, a community of housing, shops, services, an opera house and even the first indoor mall in California, where you could buy everything from shoes to a mink stole or automobile. The Walkers chose Westwood for its dense forest and pristine surroundings. Enjoy the beauty today with a stay at this historic Inn.
