Golf

Plumas County is home to great golf and Lake Almanor West is indeed a jewel in our midst. Spectacular scenery surrounds the course. It’s a fun course to play and is often noted as one of northern California’s best kept secrets. The stunning course offers some of the most spectacular views in the region. Picturesque Mt. Lassen serves as a backdrop to welcome you to this 9-hole course with its 6,318-yard, par 72, forest-lined fairways. Two very different sets of tee makers offer both the feel and challenge of playing 18 unique holes of golf.

This year Brandie DeRuiter will be returning as Pro Shop Manager. She holds a strong value for customer service and she said they constantly get compliments about the pristine condition of the course. The pro shop is fully stocked with a nice selection of golf equipment, supplies and apparel. They also offer golf club repair and re-gripping services. Bring in your equipment before your next round and let them make

sure your game is the best that it can be.

Step up to the driving range for a marvelous view of Mt. Lassen and a chance to practice your drives on their beautifully manicured putting green. Call to inquire about lessons.

Yamaha rental carts are available. Our golf cart ride took us on a journey throughout the course, showing off all the tranquility and nature that represents the west shore of Lake Almanor. The entire course is nestled among giant pine trees with lush, green lawns and fresh, fluffy sand. Majestic views of Mt. Lassen and the mighty forest that surrounds are sure to enhance any game. Wildlife viewing is common on the course.

Golfers and staff at Lake Almanor West feel like family. Many of the golfers are indeed family at Lake Almanor West, owning homes in its 615-acre private community located on the scenic shores of beautiful Lake Almanor. The golf course, pro shop and restaurant are open to the public.

Dining

When it comes to the restaurant, diners are enjoying the creations of Chef Antonio Mejia. If you ask him, burgers are his specialty and they are great but we found the menu filled with plenty of delicious selections like the Gobble, Gobble featuring sliced turkey, cheddar and crispy bacon with fresh lettuce, red onion and tomato, served hot or cold. A Classic B.L.T. and Hot Pastrami are also in the line-up along with the Big Bird, a chicken breast sandwich served battered and fried crispy or charbroiled. Summer salads come in two sizes and can be topped with the grilled or crispy chicken. Fish and Chips is also very popular. They offer a children’s menu with selections under $6.

This year the Grill will serve breakfast from 7am to 11am, June through August.  They will offer pancakes, waffles, and eggs any style along with omelets and a breakfast sandwich.

Chef Antonio said he just concentrates on making great tasting food that speaks for itself. It seems to be working. The food is really good and customers are coming back for more.

The staff at Lake Almanor West Golf Course and Almanor West Grill hope to see you soon. The restaurant closes after Labor Day and the golf course will be open through mid-October depending on the weather. Find us on Instagram and Facebook.
